Two individuals were arrested today (July 7, 2026) following a fire that broke out early this morning on a plot of land at the ‘Akrotiri’ site in Palio Tsiflik, Kavala.
Arrests and Penalties
The suspects are Bulgarian nationals, aged 48 and 50, and were apprehended under the flagrante delicto procedure for causing the fire through negligence. According to current legislation, they were jointly fined €2,019.37.
Cause of the Fire
Preliminary investigation revealed the blaze occurred during hot work involving a grinding wheel. No injuries or structural damage beyond the plot were reported.

From January 1 to July 7, 2026, Greek authorities have issued a total of 528 administrative fines amounting to €667,404.85 and carried out 169 arrests under the flagrante delicto process. Of these arrests:

The Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes (D.A.E.E.) and investigative units of the Hellenic Fire Service remain on high operational alert. They continue conducting intensive inspections and swiftly assigning responsibility where violations are identified.
The Hellenic Fire Service reiterated that the overwhelming majority of fires continue to stem from human negligence. Strict adherence to fire safety protocols—and avoiding work that may generate sparks or ignition sources—is essential to protect human life, the natural environment, and private property.
