Katerina Batzeli Suspended for a Year from PASOK – Disciplinary Proposal Accepted

in

On Tuesday, Katerina Batzeli appeared before the PASOK disciplinary committee to request her dismissal, arguing that neither offense nor blame against the president could be inferred from her statements. After presenting her case, Eva Zoupi proposed the suspension of the former minister’s party membership for one year. The proposal was accepted at 10:30 PM, with votes in favor of the suspension reportedly standing at 8-3. Upon entering Harilaou Trikoupis Street, Batzeli stated she would not apologize but provide explanations. According to the ethics committee, while differing views within PASOK are constitutionally protected and valuable for policy-making, derogatory remarks cannot hide behind ‘political criticism,’ especially concerning the party’s president. Despite numerous opportunities to retract her controversial statement during televised appearances, Batzeli did not do so. Consequently, by majority vote, the EDDECAP decided to suspend Batzeli’s party membership for one year, effective immediately. Haris Doukas commented that expulsions have never resolved political issues, emphasizing the need for unity and trust built through collective efforts within the party.
