in

A serious health incident involving an elderly passenger aboard the ‘Costa Fascinosa’ forced an unexpected change in the cruise’s route after departing from Katakolo, Greece. Shortly after departure, while sailing in the open waters of the Kyparissiakos Gulf, the passenger suffered a cardiac arrest, prompting immediate action by the crew and authorities to return to Katakolo. According to iliaenimerosi.gr, following a medical assessment by the ship’s staff, it was determined that urgent hospitalization on land was necessary. Under these circumstances, the captain decided to temporarily halt the cruise and turn back to organize the emergency transfer of the passenger. The ship did not dock but remained at anchor offshore. A support vessel was quickly arranged to transport the patient safely and swiftly to the port. Upon arrival, an ambulance from EKAB and a police patrol from the Hellenic Police were already on site. The elderly man was transferred to the hospital in Pyrgos, where he is currently receiving treatment.
