Stefanos Kasselakis, leader of the Democratic – Progressive Centre party, has responded with sharp irony to the wave of resignations by SYRIZA MPs — a trend unfolding almost daily. In a social media video addressed directly to SYRIZA lawmakers, Kasselakis quipped that he’s seen them ‘jumping off a sinking ship’ and offered — tongue-in-cheek — to write them letters of recommendation for jobs in the private sector, should they need them.

‘Jumping Off a Sinking Ship’

‘Comrade MPs of SYRIZA — now that I see you jumping off the sinking ship, perhaps because you fear “Vouno’s party” (over 300 meters high), if you need a letter of recommendation for your next job in the private sector, I’d be happy to write one!’ Kasselakis posted on X (formerly Twitter) on July 13, 2026, accompanying the message with a video.

The remark is widely interpreted as a jab at SYRIZA’s internal turmoil and growing fragmentation following the emergence of the new political initiative ‘ELAS’, led by former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. Earlier today, SYRIZA MP Symeon Kedikoglou announced his resignation from the party and confirmed his upcoming move to ELAS.
