Karamanlis for Vatopedi: today’s verdict closes a large wound

For restoration of truth and light always wins the darkness the former prime minister Kostas Karamanlis after the decision of the court of justice…
that acquits all defendants on the case of Vatopedi.
The former prime minister made the following statement:
“Today’s decision by the Greek Justice system reveals the magnitude of poverty in the case of Vatopedi. It reveals the machinations that μετήλθαν suspicious and humble interests, private and overlooking micro political, to direct the plot. The goal is obvious: To be affected in any way by the then government. Συκοφαντώντας, σπιλώνοντας, harrying for years innocent people and their families. To the detriment of the country at a particularly critical period of time.
Today’s verdict closes a large wound. It establishes the truth and value of the persons so unjustly accused. Leaves it heavily exposed to those who inspired and performed the dishonest venture. Albeit slowly, the light at the end always beats the darkness”.
In a packed courtroom, the Three-member court of Appeals Felonies, announced the decision of the judging innocent persons accused of the so-called “sacred exchanges” of real estate to the Greek state.
The court adopted the proposal of the prosecutor, which had recommended the acquittal of the 14 defendants and acknowledges that the Vistonida lake and the lakeside area of this belong to the Public.
In particular, the judges in the grounds of the decision have emphasised that the defendants were acquitted “due to lack of mainly of the subjective element of deceit in their face, and in a few cases due to lack of evidence of the objective existence of the offences”.
