A new, harrowing video has emerged documenting the dramatic rescue of a 75-year-old woman who jumped from her balcony in Kallithea to escape a fire. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at around 4:00 p.m. on Agion Panton and Aristeidou Streets, when flames broke out unexpectedly in her apartment. Trapped on the balcony, the elderly woman was surrounded by smoke and heat.
Local residents—including a delivery rider who happened to be nearby—and neighbors gathered in the street below, urging her to jump to safety. After a tense moment, she leapt—carrying with her the Greek flag that had been displayed on her balcony.
The footage captures the intense moments leading up to the jump: bystanders formed a human ‘cushion’ with their hands, shouting encouragement. Immediately after she landed safely, the crowd erupted into applause—before quickly dispersing as explosions rocked the building and debris began falling from the burning apartment.
Speaking to Newsit.gr, the woman said: “I’m doing better now, and I want to thank—from the bottom of my heart—everyone who helped us.”
