Three of the seven individuals arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing in Kallithea, Athens — which left a 15-year-old boy dead — have been remanded in custody. The 17-year-old suspect, who admitted to delivering the fatal wound during a violent confrontation, told investigators that the victim had chased him after producing a knife, leading to a physical struggle in which he unintentionally stabbed the teen fatally.
Conflicting Accounts Emerge
An 18-year-old friend of the victim, who witnessed the incident, gave a contradictory version: he stated that it was the 17-year-old suspect who was holding the knife — not the victim. According to his testimony: ‘We started insulting each other and got into a fistfight, throwing punches. The victim hit the suspect, who then fled. The victim began chasing him, and I shouted at him to turn back because the suspect had a knife. The victim caught up within five meters. I grabbed a branch from the ground and ran toward them — but before I reached them, I saw the victim collapse in a pool of blood, and I immediately called for help.’
Two Separate Altercations Described
Another 18-year-old suspect described two separate altercations — the second of which ended tragically. He claimed he participated only in the first clash, during which he himself was attacked, and withdrew before the second confrontation occurred. ‘I have no visual memory of the second incident,’ he said. ‘I learned about it later.’
The seventh suspect, currently hospitalized with injuries, is expected to appear before the juvenile investigating magistrate on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, to request a deadline to submit his formal statement in the coming days.
Charges facing the suspects include premeditated homicide, participation in a brawl involving weapons resulting in death, grievous bodily harm as a co-perpetrator and in concert, illegal possession and use of a weapon, and related offenses. Authorities are examining the case under provisions of Greece’s sports-related legislation, as the incident is believed to have stemmed from an organized, sport-linked context.
The remaining three suspects were released under judicial restrictions.
