Authorities have identified the 15-year-old boy who died during a violent brawl that broke out late on Wednesday, 24 June, in Athens’ Kallithea district.

Victim and Suspect Identified

The victim was a 15-and-a-half-year-old boy with prior police contact: he had been arrested a month earlier for carrying a knife, and again about a year ago for possession of a metal knuckle duster. His identity was confirmed by the Hellenic Police’s Criminal Investigations Directorate, using fingerprints taken during those earlier arrests.

Police also identified and arrested the suspect — a 17-year-old Greek national — who allegedly stabbed the teenager to death. According to preliminary reports, the suspect confessed to the crime shortly after his arrest.

Clash Between Two Groups

The incident occurred at a small park on Megaloupoleos Street in Kallithea. The victim had been there with five friends. The suspect was present with two others. An argument erupted between the two groups, prompting the suspect to call for backup. Five more individuals arrived at the scene, and the confrontation escalated into a chase.

The 15-year-old and his friends were pursued for approximately 100 metres before the teen collapsed and died from a stab wound.

Initial Theory Dismissed

Early speculation suggested the clash might have stemmed from football-related rivalries, but investigators quickly ruled that out. Statements from all 14 individuals brought in for questioning — including members of both groups — pointed instead to local tensions between youth factions in the area.
