In a fierce attack during Wednesday night’s parliamentary session (June 18, 2025), Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis harshly criticized former President of the ‘Freedom Voyage,’ Maria Konstantopoulou. Speaking about her legal actions, Floridis stated, “Ms. Konstantopoulou questioned what color and taste justice has. Let’s see.” He then proceeded to name several women who had visited Greece, alleging that they were drugged and raped by a Greek man. According to Floridis, Konstantopoulou represented the accused rapist. The courtroom saw delays as methods for postponements were employed, forcing victims from Canada and Australia to repeatedly travel for hearings over a span of seven years. Women’s organizations in the country have filed complaints accusing Konstantopoulou of torturing the rape victims through these delays. Ultimately, the perpetrator was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Floridis also highlighted how Konstantopoulou supported legislation under SYRIZA’s governance in 2015 that benefited serious criminals, including rapists, murderers, and thieves, by reducing their sentences.
