Jeep Avenger e-HYBRID 100PS – Test: With economic consumption and no traffic charges

Avenger is already known on the world market, having earned the impressions, a share in the competitive category B-SUV, many distinctions, as well as the title of the European Car of the Year 2023). Initially, Jeep Avenger made its appearance as pure electric, then we were introduced the thermal version with the 1,200-year-old turbo gasoline engine of 100 horsepower and now the hybrid version (e-Hybrid) was added to the range with the 100 horsepower, enriching the fleet with an ecological and efficient proposal. CORVERSE More specifically, Avenger with the hybrid drive system with the signature of the Stellantis group consists of the 1,200-year-old turbo gasoline engine PureTech 100 horsepower, which is advanced for electrified motion systems and operates in the Miller cycle, a small 48V lithium ion battery with a capacity of 0.89kWh (0.43kk Who beneficial) , a new DCT-6 double clutch automatic box and an electric motor mounted in the box. The electric motor delivers 28 horsepower and 55Nm torque, while operating as a generator to charge the battery. In addition, Avenger can move purely electrically in low load conditions for up to one kilometre at a speed of up to 30 km/h. The battery is located under the driver’s seat so that the luggage space is maintained at 380 litres as in the gasoline version. Regarding the exterior appearance the hybrid Avenger is just like his two other brothers, even combining two details of them: the letter “e” from BEV and the exhaust from the thermal. ADVERSE Modern, then, with the squared shape, the light bodies and the characteristic mask with the 7 grilles, it is seen by a long child of Jeep, however, along with some Italian air thanks to the Italian involvement in its design, since Jeep is now owned by the Stellantis group. We recall that Avenger is the smallest member of the Jeep family with a length of 4,084 km. placed at the bottom of the B-SUV class, while the Renegade is located on the upper. Its width reaches 1.776 mm, the height 1,528 mm, and the wheelbase is 2,562 mm. The interior, too, is not surprised with anything different from the two other versions. Fresh and tasteful design, digital decoration with the two large screens, quality, without affecting the good image of hard plastics at some points, thanks to their very good fit and well-focused finish. Overall, the cabin is comfortable, practical with many micro-object storage sites, inductive smartphone charging, as well as functional, following the philosophy of the brand “design to function” . In the hybrid Avenger, as in electrical we find the large storage space between the front seats with the characteristic folding cover, which does not happen in the thermal, since there is the selector of the manual box. The digital instrument panel is legible with a 10.25 inches display, while the central console is dominated by the size touch screen, also, 10.25 inch of the renewed and easy-to-use infotainment Uconnect system, which provides the ability to wirelessly connect and display a smartphone using Android Auto and Apple Car play applications. Avenger has all modern networking systems and upgrade capability “over the air” for its software. The presence of natural switches to regulate air conditioning and other basic functions helps ergonomics. Avenger can carry 4 passengers comfortably, but comfort is limited to the rear if added 5th. Also, if they exceed 1.80m high, the back space for the knees is relatively limited. The trunk, as mentioned above, reaches 380lt, one of the good numbers of the B-SUV section, while its squared shape and double floor further favour the maximum use of space. The driving position is easily adjusted to find the ideal, is very good and gives great visibility and comfortable driving. Comfort and restful driving also contribute to comfortable seats. The hybrid Avenger on the road is flexible, robust and easy to drive, like both his brothers. Starting silently and purely electrically, you immediately find that the mild hybrid drive system works smoothly and flawlessly. This happens for about 1 km and at a speed not exceeding 30 km/h, as mentioned above, due to the small battery capacity. The hybrid system helps the fuel economy as a whole and according to the company the average consumption is 5.1 t/100 km (13% difference compared to the conventional petrol engine version and 28% in urban environment), while it emits 111 g CO2/km, i.e. 15% lower CO2 emissions than a simple gasoline engine. In practice, the average consumption we saw ranged from 6,0-6,8 t/100 km in a mixed cycle and various driving conditions. Despite the fact that Avenger e-Hybrid’s philosophy is based on ecological and economic movements within and outside cities, we lacked the strength neither in everyday life nor in the open road. This is mainly due to the very good torque from the low speeds, thanks to the help of the electric motor. The 1,200-year-old turbo engine delivers 100 horsepower and 205 Nm torque. From stop speeds up to 100 km/h to 10.9 seconds, while the top speed reaches 184 km/h. Within the city, expected hybrid, in our case, Avenger is easily driven, comfortable and flexible even in narrow thanks to its compact dimensions. The steering wheel is light in feeling, which also helps in everyday life, in maneuvers and parking. The 6-speed automatic double clutch box gives restful routes with smooth changes, while the low torque facilitates the whole situation even more in motion. The low level of noise inside the cabin and Avenger’s very good rolling quality upgrade daily travel within the cities and also the quality of travel. The characteristic melodic sound of the flash remains, as in both other versions, and makes us feel better. The suspension has a relatively tight setting, without this worrying about the pits and the mischiefs of the roads, it simply becomes a little more noticeable to react to the back half-flexible axis to transverse anomalies. In general, comfort, as well as the civilized character of the driving set characterize the hybrid Jeep Avenger. The change from pure electrical motion to the operation of the thermal engine is felt, without this affecting negatively. With steady gas and no unnecessary accelerations and slowdowns, except for good consumption, we achieve more… electrical kilometers. Note that we exploit the energy recovery system to “fill” the battery level, especially on downhill routes, while if the battery is full, the management system activates the thermal engine for extra deceleration and therefore reduced brake wear. With a firm and steady foothold on the highway, you move comfortably and safely. On the provincial road with turns, Avenger leads you pleasantly and comfortably, and when the pace rises it does not take long to respond. The robust frame combined with the tight adjustment of the suspension gives a high level of adhesion, limited inclinations to the 1,288 kg body (the weight of the hybrid system weighs 60 kg) and predictable reactions. The Sport option in more demanding conditions is preferable, since the steering wheel in this case “burdens”, improves its sense and gives greater confidence. In the case of the most intense driving rate, we choose to make changes from the paddles behind the steering wheel, which are available standard. In fact, in Sport mode, the gas response is more immediate, thanks to the electric motor that gives an additional 12 horsepower at acceleration. In case of driving excess or inappropriate speed in slippery pavement conditions, the front opens its orbit, but with a break of the right pedal or a little brake, it returns to the right course. Once again, without a particular goal, we found ourselves on a moderate off-road route behind Avenger’s steering wheel. No surprise at his behavior, since we’ve been through much harder paths in photography with his electric version. It just reminds us that… clothing doesn’t make the priest, and despite his urban air, he does just fine in the cottage. Thus, although forward-wheeled, the distance of 20.9 cm from the ground, but also the angles of approach, ramp and escape with 20, 20 and 32 degrees, respectively, help off-road searches. The Hill Descent Control and Selec-Terrain system helps the front wheels to find adhesion when conditions require it. In fact, the Selec-Terrain system, standard in basic equipment, offers out of the Eco, Normal and Sport driver profiles, in addition to the Sand, Mud and Snow programs, so that the driver can make use of all the car’s capabilities according to the conditions and surfaces of the pavement, in which he moves. Skills are many, however, because it is not a purebred off-road vehicle, it needs attention and is not intended for extreme off-road routes. In the field of safety, Avenger is equipped with all the necessary modern driver assistance systems: Driving in the lane, autonomous emergency braking system with pedestrian and motorcycle identification, road marking identification, cruise control, driver fatigue recognition, parking assistance, blind-point control, rear-facing camera, as well as autonomous level driving 2. In conclusion, Jeep Avenger e-Hybrid is a very good choice in the B-SUV category and perhaps the most balanced solution between the three Avenger versions for the one who prioritizes efficiency and ecology, without wanting or able to have an electric vehicle. Thus, it is more eco-friendly – it circulates freely on the ring – and more economical in fuel consumption than thermal (and without traffic charges), but also more comfortable thanks to the automatic box. The price of Avenger e-Hybrid 100Ps DCT-6 Longitude starts at 26,490 euros with four years warranty, while the Summit version of our test from 31,490 euros .
