Italy: Withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan completed after 20 years

Italy, one of the western countries with a strong military presence in Afghanistan, announced today that it had repatriated its last troops from the war-torn country as part of the withdrawal of NATO forces.

Italy, along with the United States, Turkey, Britain and Germany, is one of the five countries with the most troops in Afghanistan as part of NATO’s Resolute Support mission.

After 20 years of presence in the country, NATO announced on April 29 the beginning of the withdrawal of its troops.
