A large extent has taken place in the torture case suffered by immigrants from Libyan judicial police officer Nizem Ozama Elmasri Habis, with her being at the centre. In particular, a man testified today (03.02.2020) that he was tortured by Nizem Ozama Elmasri Habis and then denounced Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni as well as Interior and Justice Ministers, for synergy in an illegal act. CORVERSE This man, called Lam Bakok Biel Ruei, then pointed out that “he is a victim and witness of torture”. As quoted in the complaint, the Italian Prime Minister and these ministers “did not allow this Libyan to be judged a torturer by justice”. It is recalled that Elmasri had been arrested on 19 January 2025 in Turin, on the basis of a warrant from the International Criminal Court, for war crimes and against humanity. After two days, however, he was released and deported. The Italian authorities ordered his transfer to Tripoli, with a Falcon-type state aircraft. CORVERSE The legal procedure For this whole case, following an Italian lawyer’s complaint, last week a prosecutor’s investigation was initiated, always at the expense of Georgia Meloni, the Interior and Justice Ministers, as well as the deputy minister despite the government presidency. Legally speaking, it is a special “ministers’ court”, which should decide whether the Italian Prime Minister and the members of its government should eventually be brought to trial. Italian Interior Minister Mateo Piadedozi, in statements he argued that Elmasri was deported because he was deemed socially dangerous and because Justice Minister, Carlo Nordio, was not informed in time by Turin’s prosecution of his arrest. Much of the press, however, like opposition forces, believe that Elmasri’s deportation is related to pressure exerted by Libya, with the aim of avoiding massive waves of immigrants from the wider region of the Libyan capital, bound for Lower Italy.
