The nets of the Italian authorities caught influencer and Madalina Ioana Filip, or “Mady Gio” who allegedly declared low incomes, but will be called to pay over 1.5m euros in taxes. Romania’s 29-year-old model “Mady Gio” popular on OnlyFans with over 1.5 million followers on Instagram, is accused of hiding incomes exceeding 1m euros. During the audits carried out in 2021 and 2022, as quoted by Corriere, the Italian tax authority concluded that Mady Gio withheld significant amounts and reported it to the D.A. for an inaccurate tax return in 2022, claiming at the same time an amount of more than 1.5 million euros in revenue and 360,000 euros in additional tax charges. Mady Gio allegedly had moved her tax residence to Switzerland in early 2022, attempting to benefit from the country’s favourable tax regime. However, the Italian authorities concluded that it did not meet the conditions to be considered a Swiss tax resident, as it continued to maintain bank accounts and online activities in Italy, and was often involved in events taking place in the country. Responding to the charges, influencer, who is abroad for professional reasons, gave through social media her own version: See this post on Instagram. “I read articles referring to tax evasion charges against me. My right to privacy and the sacred law of innocence have been violated until proven otherwise. These are only charges for which I have already instructed my legal advisers to defend me to the competent authorities,” said Mady Gio through a post on the Instagram platform. Her lawyer, Riccardo Lanzo, the head of the legal group representing her, clarified that “at present, Mrs Filip has only received notification of the completion of an on-the-spot inspection procedure, which preceded the tax administration’s decisions. Our client will cooperate fully with the competent authority, as did the financial police.” Her lawyer added that his client remains optimistic that the case will be resolved soon.
