Italy: “I thought killing them would live freely,” says the 17-year-old who slaughtered his parents and brother

Shocked is the family tragedy where a 17-year-old slaughtered his parents and brother while at the same time new shocking details of the case see the light of publicity. As she broadcasts, the 17-year-old from Italy after confessing his crime calmly described how his desire to be “cut off” from his family led him to this heinous act. “I thought by killing them I could live freely,” he said. Riccardo said he believed that a single hit with the knife would be enough to kill his father, mother and brother Lorenzo. He had planned the crime in his mind for days, maybe months, thinking that his relatives would collapse immediately, as in a video game. “I thought one blow would be enough to kill,” he said. When he realized that this was not the case, he struck his victims repeatedly, stating that he felt their pain and did not wish it. After the attack, Riccardo put the knife on his pillow, but soon took it back and went out on the road to call the police. As he confessed, the thought of annihilating his family bothered him all day long that Saturday, before proceeding to the heinous act. For the judges and the police, there’s no way that the cause was Father Fabio’s birthday party, which took place a few hours before the crime. The relatives, grandparents, uncles and cousins were present at the villa for dinner, but no one noticed anything unusual about Riccardo, except that he was always introverted. When he was “sure that his parents were sleeping”, Riccardo got out of bed, slowly descended down the stairs and took a knife from the kitchen, with a blade greater than twenty cm. “I hit Lorenzo first, just because he was closer to me. There was no particular reason,” he said in his confession referring to his brother. Despite the horrible crime, Riccardo stated that “there was no particular reason” behind the extermination of his family. He mentioned only one feeling of “disability” and the feeling that he was “a foreign body” within his family: “I thought if I killed them, I could live freely, cut off from my family, live alone,” he told the interrogators. Riccardo did not give details of what this sense of freedom to which he referred meant. This summer, he went on vacation with his parents and friends. On 21.07.2024, he was invited along with other children to a seaside residence of a classmate in Tuscany. His friends say he was laughing, making jokes, listening to rap music like many other teenagers, showing no signs of fanaticism. However, in juvenile prosecutors he heard “sad music ” because he felt that way. Especially, he spontaneously spoke of a Beatles song, “The Long and Winding Road”. This melancholy ballad had become the soundtrack of his everyday life.
