Outrage has erupted across Italy following a violent incident involving Giuseppe Barboni, a businessman and member of the far-right party Nazionale Futuro (National Future), founded just months ago. In a video he posted online, Barboni is seen first confronting a migrant in San Benedetto del Tronto — a coastal town in Italy’s Marche region — in an aggressive verbal exchange. The man, identified by Barboni as Iraqi, was reportedly blocking traffic on a public road.

Assault Captured on Camera

After what Barboni described as a ‘peaceful verbal attempt’, he physically intervenes: grabbing the man, throwing him to the ground, pinning him down, and repeatedly punching him in the face. The video ends with Barboni shoving the man to the side of the pavement.

In his social media post accompanying the footage, Barboni claimed the man had been ‘bothering the city for months’ and caused ‘chaos’ in the past 24 hours. The clip quickly went viral, drawing sharp criticism from Italian media outlets and political figures across the spectrum.

Widespread Condemnation

Nicola Mocioni, the centre-right mayor of San Benedetto del Tronto, explicitly distanced himself from the act. ‘We distance ourselves from incidents like this — vigilantism is not the right choice,’ he stated.

Nazionale Futuro, led by retired General Roberto Vanacci, advocates for the mandatory repatriation of irregular migrants, has openly opposed LGBTQ+ rights, and controversially describes femicide as ‘just another murder’. According to recent polls, the party currently holds 6.2% support nationwide.
