“Israeli hostage attempted suicide,” says Islamic Jihad in Gaza

The representative did not specify when the man was scheduled to be released or on the basis of what agreement. Arab mediators’ efforts, supported by the US, have not so far been able to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, based on a possible agreement in which Israeli hostages could also be released, in exchange for the release of Palestinians from Israeli prisons. The armed wing of Islamic Jihad made the decision to tighten up security measures for the hostages, Abu Hamza added. In July, the armed arm of Islamic Jihad stated that some Israeli hostages tried to commit suicide after starting to treat them the same way, as he said, as Israel treats Palestinian prisoners. “We will continue to treat Israeli hostages the same way Israel treats our prisoners,” Abu Hamza said at the time. Israel has denied the accusations of mistreatment of Palestinian prisoners.
