Indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas for a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and the release of hostages appear to be collapsing. In recent days, voices within Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s inner circle have highlighted a deadlock in the talks held in Doha, Qatar, mediated by officials from the U.S. and Egypt at various times. Following this, Netanyahu ordered high-ranking members of Israel’s negotiation team to withdraw from Qatar on Tuesday (May 20, 2025). While senior diplomats returned to Israel after a week of intensive discussions, some representatives remained in Doha. However, today, Thursday (May 22, 2025), Netanyahu decided to recall the entire Israeli delegation due to the ongoing stalemate. The situation in Gaza remains dire, with the Palestinian Health Minister reporting that 29 children and elderly individuals have died from starvation-related causes in recent days. Additionally, thousands more are at risk. The Israeli Defense Forces issued evacuation orders for 14 neighborhoods in northern Gaza, including the Jabalia refugee camp, warning of intense military operations against terrorist organizations active in these areas. At least 52 people were killed today in Israeli airstrikes across Gaza.
