The arrest of three suspects following the shooting of two flares near his prime minister’s house, who was not within that time, announced this morning (17.11.2024) the police and Israel’s internal security service Shin Bet. “During the night three suspects were arrested for their involvement in the incident”, which occurred in Caesarea in central Israel where Benjamin Netanyahu’s house is located, pointed out in a statement, adding that Israeli justice has banned for a period of 30 days the publication of information on the investigation conducted as well as on the identity of suspects. Yesterday afternoon, at about 19:30 (local time and time of Greece), two flares fell into the courtyard in front of the Israeli Prime Minister’s house, according to police and Sin Bette who spoke of a “serious incident” and “dangerous escalation”. Knesset President Amir Ohana accused the protest movement against Netanyahu of causing the attack, while Israeli President Isaac Herchog warned against “the escalation of violence in the political sphere”. The judicial reform promoted by Netanyahu and his far-right partners divided Israel deeply in 2023 and caused the creation of one of the most important protest movements against the government in Israel’s history. Netanyahu’s critics called for reform not to proceed but for him to leave the prime ministership, as he is accused of corruption in a number of criminal cases. The reform has been frozen since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas on 7 October 2023, but the movement against Netanyahu continues to wage demonstrations, albeit of a smaller scale.
