The Gaza Strip agreement is a fact with its government ratifying it. In the first phase of the ceasefire agreement Israel will release 737 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for 33 Israeli hostages. CORVERSE As part of the first phase of the truce between Israel and Hamas, “the government approved the release of 737 prisoners and detainees under administrative detention status,” he pointed out the ministry in a statement. Among the prisoners expected to be released are Zakaria Zubeidi, responsible for many attacks on Israeli civilians and former head of the al Aksha Brigades, the armed wing of Fatah, who escaped from an Israeli prison in 2021. The cabinet meeting that endorsed the deal lasted more than six hours and ended in Saturday’s early morning hours. CORVERSE As Israeli media broadcast, the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip was approved by 24 votes in favour of eight against. The agreed truce, to which the hardcore members of the government coalition opposed, initially envisions a ceasefire for a six-week period, beginning Sunday. What the three phases of the truce During the first of the three phases of the truce, Hamas must release 33 hostages: women, children and men over 50 years of age. In return, all Palestinians and minors detained in Israeli prisons will be released. The total number of Palestinians released will depend on the number of hostages Hamas will release. The agreement also provides that 600 trucks carrying humanitarian aid will enter the Gaza Strip daily. The 50 of them will supply the enclave with fuel and 300 will head to the northern areas of the enclave. The implementation of the agreement will guarantee Qatar, Egypt and the USA. Negotiations on the second phase of the truce will begin on the 16th day of the first phase and are expected to include the release of all other hostages, permanent ceasefire and the full withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Palestinian enclave. The third phase will include the return of all dead hostages and the start of the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, supervised by Egypt, Qatar and the United Nations.
