Israeli Foreign Minister described the head of European diplomacy as “anti-Semite”, who said “shocked” after the death of UN workers in an Israeli bombing in the Gaza Strip. “Jozep Borrell is an anti-Semite and an Israeli critic who is constantly trying to adopt resolutions and sanctions against Israel within the EU, until most Member States prevent him,” said Israeli State Secretary, Israel Kats in a statement. On Thursday (12/09/2024), Borrell condemned “the violation of fundamental principles of international humanitarian law” following the death of 18 people Wednesday in an Israeli bombing at a school in the Gaza Strip that had been transformed into a refuge for people, according to Civil Protection. Among the victims were six UN Service members for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA). The Israeli blow destroyed part of an facility managed by UNRWA. The Israeli army, for its part, announced that its air force “made an accuracy blow to terrorists operating” within the school and had taken steps to reduce the risks to civilians. The army today named nine men who said they were Hamas members and were killed in this bombing in Nussirat, including three UNRWA workers. “There is a difference between justified criticism and political disagreements, which are normal between friends, and the anti-Semitism and hate campaign conducted by Borrell against Israel, reminiscent of the worst anti-Semites in history,” Kats stressed. The Israeli blow to the school was the most dead episode for UNRWA staff members since the outbreak of the war, on 7 October 2023 and caused an international conviction. UNRWA stresses that at least 220 members of its staff have been killed in the war, sparked by Hamas’ unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7.
