The Israeli military announced on Sunday (06.07.2025) that it intercepted a missile launched by Yemen’s Houthis. Sirens were heard across several parts of the country. According to Reuters, a spokesperson for the Iran-aligned Houthis later stated that the rebels had fired a ballistic missile toward the Jaffa area in central Israel.
At the same time, reports emerged indicating that Houthi rebels also attacked a ship in the Red Sea, though no further details have been released so far.
Israel has threatened the Houthis—who claim their attacks are acts of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza—with a naval and aerial blockade if the assaults continue. Since the start of Israel’s war in Gaza in October 2023, the Houthis, who control much of Yemen, have frequently launched attacks against Israel and shipping in the Red Sea, disrupting global trade. Most of the dozens of missiles and drones they have fired have either been intercepted or missed their targets. Israel has carried out several retaliatory strikes.
