The Israeli military announced today (May 31, 2025) that it had successfully eliminated Mohammed Sinwar, the leader of Hamas in Gaza, on May 13. This confirms statements made earlier this week by the prime minister. Mohammed Sinwar was targeted in an Israeli air strike at a hospital in southern Gaza earlier this month. The Israeli Air Force revealed that over 50 bombs were dropped within 30 seconds to ensure the elimination of Sinwar and other Hamas operatives. Mohammed Sinwar is the younger brother of Yahya Sinwar, the former leader of the Palestinian armed organization and mastermind behind the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel. Following his brother’s death, Mohammed reportedly took control of the military wing of the organization. Hamas has neither confirmed nor denied his death. Nonetheless, Israel has warned other leaders of the group that they will be next. Defense Minister Israel Katz stated, “It is now official: The murderer Mohammed Sinwar has been neutralized along with the commander of the Rafah Brigade, Mohammed Sambarah, and their evil gang under the European Hospital in Gaza, sent to meet his brother at the gates of hell.” He added, “Izz al-Din al-Hanada in Gaza and Khalil al-Haya abroad, and all your accomplices in crime, you are next in line.”
