Israel Claims Hamas Has Enough Food for an Obesity Epidemic

An Israeli government representative stated that Hamas has ‘sufficient quantities of food for an obesity epidemic,’ following the suspension of humanitarian aid to Gaza. A spokesperson for the Israeli government declared on Clean Monday (March 3, 2025) that Hamas possesses ‘adequate food supplies enough for an obesity epidemic’ in the Gaza Strip. Moreover, a far-right Israeli minister requested the bombing of food warehouses in the Palestinian enclave, one day after the Israeli government suspended humanitarian aid to Gaza. “Hamas has been stockpiling supplies for months,” said the representative, David Menser, during a press conference in Jerusalem. “They have enough food to cause an obesity epidemic, but the only ones getting fat are members of Hamas (…). No one in Hamas is starving,” he added. The UN, along with several Arab countries, condemned Israel for halting humanitarian aid to Gaza and demanded the immediate resumption of aid delivery. Since January 19, hundreds of trucks transporting daily essentials like food, medical supplies, fuel, and other necessities have helped alleviate the suffering of over 2 million civilians facing hunger and diseases after 15 months of relentless Israeli bombings in the Gaza conflict, triggered by Hamas’s deadly attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. Far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to stop aid entry into Gaza, urging instead to bomb existing aid warehouses within the Palestinian territory to ‘choke Hamas into surrendering and returning all our hostages.’ “For this to happen, Gaza must endure punishment. And punishment also means bombing all aid warehouses controlled by Hamas,” as well as cutting off electricity and water supply, he said.
