Israel Claims Foiled Iranian Attack on Citizens in Cyprus by Revolutionary Guards

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar announced on Saturday (21.06.2025) that an alleged Iranian attack against Israeli civilians in Cyprus was thwarted. According to Sa’ar, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Iran’s terror arm, attempted to carry out the attack. Thanks to the swift action of Cypriot security authorities in cooperation with Israeli security services, the terrorist plot was successfully stopped.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sa’ar stated: “The IRGC – the terror arm of the Iranian regime – tried to execute an attack on Israeli citizens in Cyprus.” He added that Israel appreciates Cyprus’s rapid and effective response. The Israeli government has vowed to continue efforts to eliminate existential threats posed by Iran’s terrorist regime.

However, no further details were provided about the supposed attack, including its timing, location within Cyprus, or the method planned by Iran. Earlier, Cypriot authorities reported the arrest of a British man suspected of terrorism-related offenses. Invoking national security concerns, Cypriot police did not disclose specifics about the suspect. Local media claimed the suspect had been surveilling the RAF Akrotiri military base and another local facility since mid-April.

The detained individual appeared before a district court, where an eight-day detention order was issued. It remains unclear if this man is connected to the alleged plan uncovered by Israel. As of now, Tehran has not commented on these allegations.
