Her remarks have caused significant stir. “I want to say this as a human being; women should stop having abortions and stop killing their children,” Merkouri stated, emphasizing her stance without judgment. She further explained, “It is possible for murder ever to become a right or law? When Eleonora asked me if I would keep a child from rape, I said yes. Even if I were raped, I would keep the child, and I stand by that today. It’s something I’ve always believed in, and I hope no woman has to go through it again. I speak with human pain, not condemnation.” She concluded by stating, “Murder will remain the greatest crime against humanity, and those who commit it are condemned. Suddenly, we turned murder into a right and abortion. It is murder, and I will clarify that murder should never be a right.”
