Iraq: Thirteen policemen killed in Islamic State attack in Kirkuk

Thirteen members of the Iraqi federal police were killed in an attack launched by the Islamic State on Saturday night against their outpost in Kirkuk, medical sources and security sources announced today.

The attack on the checkpoint in southern Kirkuk began shortly before midnight and lasted for several hours, a senior Iraqi police official said.

In this area, jihadist cells often launch attacks against the army and police. This was one of the deadliest IS attacks in Iraq since the beginning of the year.
