On Monday (23.06.2025), symbols of the Iranian regime, including the notorious Evin Prisons in Tehran, were targeted in an unexpected strike. A video posted by Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar on platform X (formerly Twitter) showed a location north of Tehran. According to Iran International, the attack hit the entrance gate of the prison, seemingly aimed at allowing detainees to escape. No injuries among prisoners have been reported. Naemi Coler, sister of French detainee Cecile Coler held in Evin, condemned the Israeli strike, stating it irresponsibly endangers loved ones. Testimonies from former detainees reveal harrowing conditions, including solitary confinement, psychological torture, and unsanitary living spaces. Built in 1972 under the Shah’s regime and expanded post-1979 Islamic Revolution, Evin Prison has become synonymous with oppression and human rights abuses. Despite official control by the National Prisons Organization, sections of the prison are reportedly overseen by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps and Ministry of Intelligence.
