Iran: ‘We will uphold the ceasefire if Israel does too’ says President Masoud Pezeshkian

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated today (June 24, 2025) that Tehran would respect the truce provided Israel also adheres to its terms. “If the Zionist regime does not violate the ceasefire, neither will Iran,” Pezeshkian emphasized during a telephone conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, as per an announcement on the Iranian presidency’s official website. Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned he does not want to see ‘regime change’ in Iran, which he argued could lead to chaos following the ceasefire agreement that both sides seem prepared to honor after Israel’s final symbolic strikes. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One en route to The Hague and the NATO summit, Trump affirmed that Iran will not acquire nuclear weapons, adding that Russian President Vladimir Putin had offered assistance regarding Iran via a phone call. Just yesterday, the American president had supported the idea of regime change in the Islamic Republic. Yesterday’s Israeli strike killed a senior commander of the Basij militia forces, according to Iranian media reports.
