Iranian authorities estimate that hundreds of thousands of citizens will attend the mourning events, aiming to underscore broad public support for the country’s theocratic system. The ceremonies will conclude with Khamenei’s burial at the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad, his birthplace.
