Iran Launches New Wave of Attacks Against Israel Amid Escalating Tensions

Iran launched a new wave of attacks against Israel today (June 17, 2025), shortly after 6:45 PM Greek time, as reported by the country’s state television network. These new strikes appear to be retaliation for earlier Israeli airstrikes that destroyed dozens of missile systems and military installations in western Iran. Specifically, ‘the Israeli air force carried out a series of strikes in western Iran,’ according to a military statement, which noted that installations and dozens of ground-to-ground missile launchers were targeted. Explosions were also reported in Isfahan, as relayed by the Mehr News Agency, amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel. The situation in the Middle East is described as ‘explosive’ as tensions continue to rise, with Israel vowing to strike strategic infrastructure and nuclear facilities in Tehran. Earlier, Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, stated, ‘Today we will hit very significant targets in Iran, strategic and governmental infrastructures within Tehran.’ The escalation follows an announcement by the Israeli Defense Forces that during the night of June 16, Israeli air forces destroyed the secret headquarters of Iran’s Central Command (Khatam-al Anbiya). More than 450 people have been killed in Iran since the start of the latest round of conflicts with Israel on Friday, according to a human rights organization. Air raid sirens sounded tonight in the Dimona region following missile launches from Iran toward southern Israel, known for its nuclear facility.
