Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian enacted a law today (02.07.2025) that halts the country’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), according to state media reports. The law, passed by parliament last week, comes amid growing tensions between Iran and Western nations, as well as Israel. Iran accused the IAEA of siding with Western countries and justifying Israeli airstrikes. Notably, one day before the launch of Israel’s ‘Rising Lion’ military campaign, the IAEA council approved a resolution condemning Tehran for violating its non-proliferation obligations. Under the new law, any future inspections of Iran’s nuclear facilities by the IAEA will require prior approval from the Supreme National Security Council. The IAEA responded in a statement, saying it is aware of the reports and awaiting official confirmation from Iran. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in an interview with CBS News, reiterated Iran’s stance but did not provide further details.
