Press conference for the initiative of BYZANTINE THESSALONIKI on Wednesday 2 November at 12 noon in the small auditorium of the Museum of Byzantine Culture of Thessaloniki .
The central idea of the initiative of the operators is the emergence of the Byzantine character of Thessaloniki as a component of culture, tradition, history and memory and the use of as an essential resource of sustainable tourism development and international economic cooperation.
The objectives of the initiative are:
• The establishment of a permanent institution promotion of Byzantine Thessaloniki with the participation of all actors of the city, and the view of the Byzantine heritage of Thessaloniki through the combined actions of culture, art, education and entrepreneurship
• The promotion of the identity of Thessaloniki as a multicultural city that has developed this capacity in the matrix of the Byzantine – Medieval history, and the enhancement of the tourism product of the city by creating a tool to leverage the tourism demand in the wider Region of Central Macedonia. In this context it is to join organized activities of a cultural/religious/educational character
• The action for the identification and coordination of a global network of Byzantine Cities, with the aim of economic cooperation and development, but also social peace in the wider region
The three-day events are scheduled for the 4, 5 and 6 November in our city, determined by: Concert at the thessalonica concert hall with the theme “Music on the Trail of the Byzantine empire”, Scientific Meeting of the thessalonica concert hall with the title “Byzantine Civilization as a Tool of Economic Development: The Case of Thessaloniki” and the Patriarchal – Divine liturgy at the Church of St. Demetrius. These actions constitute the start of the implementation of our initiative.
Co-organisers of the three days is the Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace, the Byzantine Museum of Thessaloniki, thessalonica concert hall, the NTNG and the Professional Chamber of Thessaloniki and has been under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign affairs, the Ministry of Culture, the Region of Central Macedonia and the Municipality of Thessaloniki.
For the panel of speakers have been invited to participate, the deputy Minister of Macedonia and Thrace, ca. Maria Kolia Tsaroucha,the Governor of Central Macedonia, mr. Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the Mayor of Thessaloniki, mr Yiannis Boutaris, Metropolitan of Thessaloniki, mr. Anthimos, the President of the Commercial Association of thessaloniki, mr. Pantelis Filippidis, the Rector of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, mr. Pericles Mitkas, the President of the Centre for Byzantine Research, ca. Polymnia Katsoni, the director of the Byzantine Museum of Civilization, ca. Victory Tsilipakou, the President of the music Hall of Thessaloniki, mr. Nikitas Μυλόπουλος, the President of the national Theatre of Northern Greece, mr. Aris Stylianou and the President of the Professional Chamber of Thessaloniki, mr. Michael Ζορμπίδης.


After the presentation of the initiative and of the three days, will follow a friendly discussion with the representatives of the Press.
