Athens’ Rendis area has witnessed the inauguration of the world’s first specialized football store, the ‘INTERSPORT Football Club’, marking just the beginning of an ambitious expansion plan. As announced on March 27, 2025, by Vangelis Patris, Managing Advisor of Intersport AEE, this is not a trial but part of a comprehensive strategy focusing on football retail. Patris emphasized that the store serves as the cornerstone of their approach, with plans extending beyond Greece to include Cyprus, Romania, and Bulgaria. The company envisions up to ten such stores across these regions, with negotiations underway for outlets in Thessaloniki and Nicosia. The total investment, encompassing physical stores, an online platform, team boutiques, collaborations, and sales divisions, amounts to approximately €5 million, aiming for sales reaching around €20 million within three years. Beyond football, Intersport also plans specialty stores for other sports, particularly basketball, which is highly popular in Greece. Spanning 1,200 square meters, the flagship store offers gear tailored for professionals, enthusiasts, and fans alike, featuring clothing, footwear, accessories, balls, and collectibles. With over 2,000 men’s football shoe models, including limited-edition sneakers, the store will introduce women’s football shoes starting August 2025. The location at Rendis was chosen due to its proximity to numerous football fields, amateur clubs, academies, and professional team training centers. Highlighting the global appeal of football, Intersport aims to address the significant demand-supply gap in Greece and neighboring countries, where many professionals and amateurs currently source their equipment internationally.
