Inter-municipal water supply companies come with a state “dowry” of 250m euros to repay electricity bills

The same sources say that the government proposal will have three key features: The control of new municipal enterprises will remain 100% in the municipalities themselves, except for those businesses in municipalities bordering Attica and Thessaloniki joining EYDAP and EYATH respectively. The consolidation of municipal enterprises will take place either at county level (i.e. a single water supply company by law – regional unit) or at inter-regional level (i.e. water supply companies can be joined between municipalities bordering even if they belong to a different county – regional unit), while there will be a possibility in large prefectures – regional units to have 2 large intermunicipal enterprises. The financing of municipalities from the state budget for the repayment of outstanding debts to energy suppliers and, above all, PPC with 250m euros.
