Inflation: Footing in 2026 with Price Brakes in Greece and Eurozone

Inflation eased slightly at the start of the year in Greece, with Eurostat reporting a January annual rate of 2.8%, down from 2.9% in December 2025. In the eurozone, annual inflation stood at 1.7% in January, down from 2.0% in December. Services recorded the highest annual increase (3.2%, versus 3.4% in December), followed by food, alcohol and tobacco (2.7%, up from 2.5%), non-energy industrial goods (0.4%, up from 0.3%), and energy (-4.1%, compared to -1.9%).
