Crocodile attacks are unfortunately common but always shocking. A woman met a tragic death at the hands of a crocodile in a river in Indonesia, with locals capturing harrowing moments on video. In the footage, the reptile is seen emerging from the river with the lifeless body of the woman in its jaws, after it had dragged her underwater and drowned her. The 43-year-old Tarti Kolengsusu was picking spinach near the Air Biak River in Indonesia with her friends last Wednesday (12.03.2025) when the massive reptile grabbed her leg. The terrified mother screamed for help, waving her arms as she desperately fought to stay above water. She clung to the hands of her friends who tried to pull her back to the riverbank, but the powerful beast yanked her away. Her friends managed to escape and ran to the village for help, but by the time rescuers and locals arrived, the unfortunate woman was already dead. The video captures the voices of locals who managed to retrieve the woman’s body about two hours later. ‘The victim and her three friends were gathering spinach on the other side of the river. An hour later, they were crossing the water to go home when she suddenly shouted “help me, I’m in danger!” One of her friends, Wati, attempted to pull the victim to the riverbank but let go because she feared drowning herself. After more than two hours of searching, the victim was found dead. She was taken home for her funeral,’ police reported. Indonesia records the most crocodile attacks in the world, with approximately 1,000 attacks during the decade up to 2023, resulting in over 450 deaths.
