A missing Indian sailor aboard the Cyprus-flagged commercial vessel GFS Galaxy has been confirmed dead following an attack by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the Strait of Hormuz. The incident occurred near Oman’s coast, where the ship was struck by Iranian forces.

Survivors and Ongoing Search

Of the 11 Indian nationals aboard the vessel, 10 have been rescued so far, according to Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. One Indian national had remained unaccounted for before being declared deceased.

Iran’s Claim and Oman’s Response

Iran earlier stated it fired a warning shot that hit the ship, claiming the vessel was traveling along an unauthorized route. In response, Oman’s government strongly condemned the attack — which took place within its territorial waters — and attributed responsibility to the IRGC.

The official Omani News Agency (ONA) reported: “The Sultanate of Oman categorically condemns this attack and affirms it will take all necessary measures to address these developments and ensure the safety of the country and its citizens.”

The IRGC said the strike was part of a coordinated series of attacks targeting Gulf nations — though Oman has long maintained a neutral diplomatic stance in regional tensions.
