The sole survivor of last week’s Air India crash, Vishwashkumar Ramesh, participated in the funeral ceremony for his brother Ajay, who also perished in the tragedy. The emotional event took place in western India on June 18, 2025, with Ramesh visibly distraught as he carried his brother’s coffin to the cremation site in Dui city. His hands and face were still bandaged after spending most of the past five days in the hospital recovering from injuries sustained during the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crash.
The aircraft, destined for London, crashed moments after takeoff from Ahmedabad, killing at least 270 people, including nearly all passengers and crew members. Additionally, about 30 individuals on the ground lost their lives when the plane struck a medical hostel amid heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Ramesh, seated in seat 11A, was the only one to survive the disaster. His brother, sitting a few seats away, did not make it out alive. Residents of Ahmedabad, mourning the loss of 14 locals, attended the funeral despite the downpour.
Authorities are currently analyzing the flight data and cockpit voice recorders, commonly referred to as the ‘black box,’ retrieved from the wreckage to determine the cause of the crash.
