The Kashmir region remains a flashpoint as the conflict between India and Pakistan continues with mutual strikes on military bases. On Friday night into Saturday, tensions escalated when Indian fighter jets launched missile attacks against Pakistani airbases Murid, Sorkot, and Nur Khan (the latter located near the capital Islamabad). In retaliation, Pakistan initiated an operation codenamed ‘Bunyan-un-Marsoos,’ striking several Indian military installations. The Pakistani army claims to have destroyed India’s S-400 anti-aircraft defense system in the Andabour area of Punjab, targeted the missile storage facility at Beas, hit the Pathankot airport in Punjab, and struck the Udhampur airbase in Indian-administered Kashmir. G7 countries urged both nations to exercise maximum restraint amid this escalating crisis that has claimed over 50 civilian lives on both sides. The ongoing military escalation poses a serious threat to regional stability, prompting calls for direct dialogue to achieve a peaceful resolution.
