India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire, according to U.S. President Donald Trump. In a post on the platform Truth Social, Trump announced that India and Pakistan had agreed to a truce after a long night of negotiations mediated by the U.S. The tension between the two countries had escalated as India launched new attacks against Pakistani military targets, prompting swift retaliation from Islamabad. “After a long night of talks mediated by the U.S., I am happy to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire,” Trump wrote. “Congratulations to both countries for using common sense and high intelligence. Thank you for your attention to the issue,” he added. Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister, Ishaq Dar, stated, “Pakistan and India have agreed to an immediate ceasefire.” He emphasized that Pakistan always sought peace and security in the region without compromising its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The announcement came amid growing fears that the nuclear arsenals of both nations might be activated, as Pakistan’s military leadership prepared for a meeting regarding nuclear weapons. However, Pakistan’s Defense Minister later clarified that no such meeting was scheduled. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that India and Pakistan would commence discussions on a wide range of issues in a neutral location. Over the past 48 hours, Rubio and Jay Dee Vance engaged with senior officials from both nations, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif.
