The toll continues to rise as tensions between India and Pakistan escalate. The Indian government reported that Pakistani artillery fire on Wednesday (07.05.2025) against Indian territory, in retaliation for Indian strikes on Pakistani soil, resulted in the deaths of 13 civilians and injuries to 59 others. Of these, 13 fatalities and 44 of the injured were recorded in the village of Poons, located along the ‘Line of Control,’ which divides the disputed region of Kashmir between the two countries, according to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. Additionally, a powerful explosion was heard this morning in Lahore, Pakistan, as reported by Geo TV and Reuters journalists. Currently, there is no information regarding the cause of the blast. An unnamed Indian official stated that India is not conducting operations in Lahore, despite earlier Indian strikes targeting what they described as ‘terrorist infrastructure’ in Pakistan. Islamabad has denied responsibility for recent attacks in Indian-controlled Kashmir and claims to have shot down five Indian aircraft, accusations dismissed by the Indian embassy in Beijing as misinformation. Meanwhile, Pakistan reports at least 31 civilian deaths and approximately 50 injuries from the strikes and subsequent cross-border bombardments.
