Independent living is not just a concept or goal for disabled people, it is a fundamental right that allows them to live their lives autonomously and according to their own choices. Everyone has the right to take their own decisions, and that right must apply to everyone, regardless of disability. The programme is based on this principle and acts as a bridge that helps disabled people achieve the independence they deserve. By providing support services, disabled people can meet their daily needs, such as mobility, access to education and work, and participation in social activities. Independent living means that disabled people need not depend on family or friends, but can choose who and how to help them, strengthening their sense of autonomy. The ability to choose their personal assistant gives disabled people greater control over their lives. This right is also recognised internationally, through the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The Convention promotes equality, accessibility and dignity, stressing that society must be adapted to give everyone opportunities, inclusively. Through the practical implementation of the program “Personal Assistant for Persons with Disabilities”, beneficiaries have the ability to live independently, without restrictions. This objective, of independent living, is the core of the change pursued by the programme. For more information about the program, visit the official website: The action is implemented under the National Recovery and Authenticity Plan “Greece 2.0” with the funding of the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
