In Crete Frank Walter Steinmeyer: They welcomed him with slogans for German compensation

With slogans and banners for German reparations they welcomed the president of the Federal Republic of Germany in the martyr village of Kantano. Frank Walter Steinmeier deposited a wreath at the Cantano fallen monument, under dragons security measures. In the village of Crete were early strong police forces, which removed cars from the village square. According to zarpanews.gr, Steinmeier had a conversation with survivors, who put the matter of compensation to him, asking for justice for the crimes of the Germans. It is noted that only yesterday the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou raised a question of German compensation with Frank Walter Steinmeier answering that the matter is over. “I don’t want to take the butcher’s hand,” he was heard telling the German president one of the descendants of survivors. One of the victims said: “80 years ago you executed our parents, now you execute us for the second time”. The village of Kantanos, in western Crete, was completely destroyed on 3 June 1941 by the German occupation forces, during World War II, with Nazis leaving behind ruins and corpses.
