The funeral of Hro Kariofilli, a respected journalist at Alpha TV, took place today (02.07.2025) in her hometown of Neo Skopos, Serres, after she passed away at the age of 53 following a long battle with cancer. Her colleagues, friends, and family gathered to pay their final respects to a woman who left an indelible mark on everyone she met.
Kariofilli was known for her dedication to journalism, never stepping away from her work despite her illness. She began her career at just 19 years old and spent over three decades covering high-profile cases and police reports that remain etched in public memory.
Her brother and mother were among the mourners visibly heartbroken as they said goodbye. The service was held at the Church of Agios Dimitrios in Neo Skopos at 11:30 AM, attended by a large crowd, including members of the Alpha team—technicians, journalists, and collaborators—who described her as courageous, vibrant, and full of life.
“She was a part of us. We will do what she asked—we will grab life by the hair and live it,” her colleagues shared emotionally. Her HR director at Alpha added, “You could only be a friend with Hro.”
The Greek Union of Journalists (ESHEA) issued a heartfelt statement mourning her passing, praising her professionalism and contributions to investigative reporting. Public figures, media outlets, and fellow journalists, including Minister Nikos Dendias and Alpha TV, also expressed their condolences.
Hro Kariofilli is survived by many who loved her, and her absence leaves a profound void in the world of Greek journalism.
