Yemen’s Houthi rebels, backed by Iran, announced today (16/03/2025) that they attacked the USS Harry Truman aircraft carrier in the Red Sea. In retaliation for American strikes, which reportedly killed several key leaders of the insurgents, the Houthis threaten to target U.S. commercial ships in the Red Sea. Washington has not confirmed the attack on the USS Harry Truman. Houthi leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi called on Yemenis to gather ‘by the millions’ on Monday (17/03/2025) to protest against American attacks, particularly those targeting the capital Sanaa, resulting in over 53 deaths, including children, according to a recent Houthi statement. In a televised address, Abdul Malik al-Houthi declared that Houthi forces would strike U.S. commercial vessels in the Red Sea if the U.S. continues its assaults. ‘Americans will now be subject to maritime restrictions as long as their aggression persists. Our decision was initially focused solely on the Israeli enemy; however, from now on, the U.S. is also included,’ he stated. Expressing concern, the UN urged both the U.S. and insurgents to ‘cease all military activity.’ According to White House National Security Advisor Mike Wolts, American strikes against insurgent outposts in Yemen following threats to maritime trade and Israel ‘eliminated several significant leadership figures,’ while warning Iran: ‘This far and no further.’
