Yemen’s rebels launched an attack on a ship in the Red Sea on Sunday (06.07.2025), with no further details yet released. Additionally, the Israeli military announced that it had intercepted a missile fired by the Houthis. Reports that surfaced mentioned that the Iran-aligned Houthis carried out the attack on a vessel sailing in the Red Sea, without specifying if there were any casualties or hostages involved.
According to Reuters, a representative of the Yemeni rebels stated in a declaration that a ballistic missile was launched toward the Jaffa area in central Israel. Israel has threatened the Houthis—who have been attacking in what they describe as solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza—with naval and aerial blockades should their attacks continue.
Since the start of Israel’s war in Gaza in October 2023, the Houthis, who control much of Yemen, have frequently launched attacks on Israel and maritime traffic in the Red Sea, disrupting global trade. Most of the dozens of missiles and drones they have launched have either been intercepted or missed their targets. Israel has conducted a series of retaliatory strikes.
