The Greek media community mourns the loss of renowned crime journalist Hiro Kariophylli, who passed away at the age of 53 after a long battle with cancer. Known for her fearless reporting and dedication to investigative journalism, Kariophylli left an indelible mark on Greek television over a career spanning more than three decades at Alpha TV.
Her funeral took place in Serrai, where colleagues from Athens traveled by bus to pay their final respects. Among them was journalist Rena Kouvelioti, who shared emotional footage of the convoy heading to the ceremony. In a heartfelt message, she wrote: ‘This mission is for you, my girl… we’re coming as a convoy.’
Kariophylli began her career in crime reporting at just 19 years old and quickly became one of the most respected figures in the field. Over the last 30 years, she covered high-profile cases including mafia-style attacks, the Roulas Pispirigou case, and even reported from Ukraine during the ongoing war.
Friends, family, fellow journalists, and members of the public gathered to honor her legacy — a testament to the impact she had on both her profession and those who knew her personally. Her untimely passing has left a profound void in Greek journalism.
