The weather in Greece on Friday, May 9, 2025, was summery with significant heat for the season. Particularly high temperatures were recorded again in Crete, according to the network of automatic meteorological stations of the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr. However, the weather will change from Saturday, May 10, 2025, with lower temperatures, rain, and storms affecting even Attica. On Friday, the highest temperature was recorded in Malia Heraklion at 36.1°C, followed by Falassarna Chania, Sisi Lasithi, Agios Panteleimonas Chania, and Heraklion/ELMEPA at 35.8°C. The temperature exceeded 25°C in 356 out of the currently active 534 stations (approximately 67%), 30°C in 82 stations (approximately 15%), and 35°C was surpassed in six stations. According to the National Meteorological Service, Saturday’s weather will be rainy in most areas with a slight drop in temperature. In Macedonia and Thrace, there will be clouds with local showers and scattered storms, which may become strong in some eastern parts until noon. In northern Aegean, Cyclades, Crete, and Dodecanese, there will be occasional showers. In the rest of the country, initially clear skies will give way to clouds developing over land, particularly in Thessaly, Evia, eastern Sterea, and eastern Peloponnese, resulting in local showers or downpours and isolated storms in the afternoon. Winds will blow from northern directions at 3 to 5 Beaufort, locally up to 6 Beaufort in seas except for the southeastern Aegean where southeasterly winds will prevail at 4 to 6 Beaufort. Temperatures will slightly decrease but remain high in the south, reaching 20-22°C in the north, 24-26°C in other areas, and locally 28-29°C in Crete.
