Very high risk category 4 is predicted tomorrow Sunday (25.08.2024) in the regions and Crete. According to the Fire Risk Forecasting Charter issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, apart from Attica and Crete, there is also a danger for the areas of Central Greece, Peloponnese, North Aegean, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. In particular, the high fire risk concerns the areas: Region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace (EPE Evros including Samothrakis Island, IP Rodopi, PI Xanthi) Region of Attica Region of Central Greece (PE Boeotia, IP Evia) Region of Peloponnese (EPC Corinthia, IP Argolida) Region of the North Aegean (PE Lesvos, IP Chios, IP Samos, IP Ikaria) Region of Crete The General Secretariat of Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection has informed the relevant service departments involved, as well as the Regions and municipalities of the above areas, to be in increased political protection readiness in order to address immediately any incidents of fires. At the same time, the GGP recommends that citizens be particularly careful and avoid actions in the countryside that can cause a fire from negligence, such as burning dry grass and branches or cleaning residues, using spark-induced machinery such as saws, welding devices, using outdoor grills, smoking bees, throwing lit cigarettes, etc. It is also recalled that during the anti-pyrotic period the burning of fields is prohibited. The second phase of the P.S. operational readiness remains in place and air surveillance patrols will be carried out, as well as patrols by firemen, police and military forces. At the same time, for the above areas, the Civil Protection Action Plan to address forest fires risks remains in place, according to which, inter alia, provision is made for the application of the precautionary ban on the movement of vehicles and the stay of travellers in national parks, forests and “sensitive” areas. At the same time the Fire Department appeals to the citizens: Be especially careful and avoid any activity that could cause a fire to occur. Watch the information on forest fire prevention available on the website and official accounts of the Fire Corps, Facebook and Twitter. In the event of a fire being detected, immediately notify the Fire Department of the call number 199. Finally, the Fire Department calls on all citizens to be particularly careful in the event of a fire, for their own safety, to follow closely the instructions of the competent authorities. For more information and instructions on self-protection from forest fires, citizens can visit the website of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection at www.civilprotection.gr.
