She did not accept the conditions Israel laid down for a truce in Lebanon with her leader, Naim Kasem giving on Wednesday (20.11.2024) a militant speech, warning that it will not succeed in imposing his own terms to conclude a ceasefire agreement in Lebanon. In Lebanon was for negotiations US special envoy Amos Hawkstein, before going to Israeli territory, as he is expected to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today. The US and France have multiplied efforts to secure a truce in the war between the powerful Shia movement, which is near Iran, and Israel. On 8 October 2023, the day after Hamas’ unprecedented raid on southern areas of Israeli territory that sparked the war in the Gaza Strip, Hezbollah opened a “front of support” for the Palestinian Islamist movement, actually launching daily rockets against northern Israel. In the months following the hostilities, comparatively limited, between the Israeli armed forces and the militants of the Shia movement displaced tens of thousands of inhabitants on both sides of the Israeli-Lebanon border. Stressing that he wants to repel Hezbollah from the border so that he is no longer able to attack his territory and safely return some 60,000 inhabitants of the northern part of the country, Israel launched a massive air bombing campaign in Lebanon on 23 September and seven days later proceeded land attack on the southern part of the neighbouring country. The American ambassador to the Lebanese capital, Lisa Johnson, presented last week to Prime Minister Najib Mikati and parliament chairman Nabi Berry a 13-point plan that envisions a ceasefire for 60 days and the development of Lebanese armed forces, who have not been involved in the war, in southern Lebanon, stronghold of Hezbollah. Hawkstein, who arrived in Beirut the other night Tuesday, spoke Wednesday morning about “more progress” in terms of the American plan, following his talks with Berry, playing a link role with Hezbollah. Israel “will not impose its terms on us,” the secretary general of the Lebanese Shia movement warned in a recorded speech. He added that Hezbollah demands that Israel’s attack on Lebanon be “completely terminated.” “The Israeli enemy cannot invade the country’s territory at any time” in the event of a ceasefire, he completed. Netanyahu: We’ll keep going. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Monday night that his army would continue to “run operations” even if an agreement was concluded. Gideon Saar’s government’s foreign minister came back yesterday, saying that any agreement should leave Israel “free of action” against the Lebanese movement. Cassem also warned that his movement would target “the centre of Tel Aviv”, in return for recent bombings of Israeli air force in the heart of the capital Beirut. The Lebanese Ministry of Health yesterday mentioned 10 dead in Israeli bombings in the south. Hezbollah announced that she went on many attacks on northern Israel. The Israeli army war with Hezbollah has cost life to over 3,550 people in Lebanon, in their large majority since the Israeli campaign of mass air bombing began on September 23. On the Israeli side, 79 soldiers and 46 civilians have been killed in 13 months, as they are officially known. Lebanon’s army announced yesterday the death of a member in an Israeli attack on the south, increasing to 18 his losses since 23 September. For his part, the Israeli army announced the death of three of its own members, including a Seventh Reserve, in battles in the southern part of Lebanese territory. His losses thus increased to 52 after he started land operations in southern Lebanon on September 30. France pointed out the day before that it was necessary to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which concerned the end of Israel’s previous war with Hezbollah in the summer of 2006. The decision stipulated that only the Lebanese army and the United Nations peacekeeping force should have deployed troops on the southern border of the country, which means that the Hezbollah militants and Israeli troops operating on Lebanese territory will be withdrawn. The fire in the Middle East was set by Hamas’ unprecedented raid on the southern part of Israeli territory on 7 October 2023, which cost the lives of 1,206 people, the majority of them civilians, according to a count by the French Agency based on official Israeli data, including hostages who either died in captivity or were already dead when transferred to the Palestinian enclave. 251 more people were kidnapped, 97 of whom remain hostages in the Gaza Strip, but 34 of them have been declared dead by the Israeli army. In retaliation, the Israeli army launched large-scale operations that have cost at least 43,985 people, the majority of them civilians, the small Palestinian enclave, according to the latest data from the Hamas Ministry of Health, identified as reliable by the United Nations. Almost all of the population of 2.4 million were forced into the enclave, which has plunged into a humanitarian disaster. New Gaza bombings Yesterday civil protection workers in the Gaza Strip spoke of at least 48 people, including a newborn and a teenager. And, in the early morning hours, at least five homes were bombed in Bate Lahia, resulting in dozens of people being killed and injured, according to first aid workers. Hamas media reported 57 dead, although there has still been no official briefing. On the Israeli side, it was announced that yesterday a member of his was killed in battles in the northern part of the female. The US prevented yesterday the UN Security Council from adopting a draft decision calling for a ‘direct, unconditional and permanent’ ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, once again exercising their veto in favour of their close ally, Israel. Hamas pleaded in Washington that she is “directly responsible” for the “genocidal war” in the Gaza Strip, while the Palestinian Authority, based on the occupied West Bank, saw in the American veto “encourage Israel to continue its crimes”.
